Vodafone USB Stick Pro 3G modem

If you fancy the idea of getting fast internet while you're out and about, but don't want to mess around trying to hook your mobile up to your laptop or always be on the lookout for a Wi-Fi hotspot then a 3G USB modem is the way to go.

Thanks to Vodafone's new USB Stick Pro, fast internet is even more affordable than ever. It's available for free on either an 18 or 24 month contract and if you opt for the two year deal then the first thee months will only cost you £10 each - saving £15 in total. That gets you 3GB of data a month, but if you need more then 5GB will set you back £15 for the first three months, saving £30 overall.

It supports a maximum speed of 7.2Mbps - although in real use you're more likely to get between 1-5Mbps. The USB connector retracts when not in use and it even doubles as 4GB memory key.

Sony Ericsson MD300

If you need fast internet access while you're on the go then Sony Ericsson's MD300 should be able to get you online no matter where you are or what network is available. With support for HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE and GPRS you'll be able to access the fastest connection available wherever you are.

It plugs into a spare USB port and works with XP, Vista and Mac OS X, making it a flexible travel companion. Under Windows it doesn't require any additional drivers - just plug it in and it will install and configure itself with the minimal of fuss.

It will work on three frequencies (850, 1900 and 2100MHz) for HSDPA or UMTS and four (850, 900, 1800 and 1900MHz) for EDGE and GPRS. It's small at just 70x32.5x15mm and you can even choose between black or metallic silver, so you can ensure it matches your laptop's livery.

The MD300 will be available in at the start of next year, pricing has yet to be confirmed. Keep and eye on Sony Ericsson's site for further details.
