Lenovo ThinkPad X300 super thin laptop

Apple isn't the only company with a super small laptop - the new Lenovo ThinkPad X300 measures just 318x231x18.5mm giving it a similar footprint to the Macbook Air.

The X300 includes a 64GB solid state drive as standard, which not only helps keep the weight down also makes it more resilient to bashes and bumps while out and about, as do the carbon and glass fiber materials used in its case. The screen stretches to 13.3in and it's an LED backlit model which should help boost battery life.

It uses a low voltage 1.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo SL7100 processor which will increase battery life and comes with 1GB of RAM as standard. Lenovo has even managed to squeeze in space for an internal DVD writer.

The X300 is available now from Lenovo, prices start from £1,700.

Lacie Little Disk tiny 40GB hard drive

Lacie's new Little Disk crams a massive amount of storage into an incredibly small space. It can hold 40GB of data but measures a minuscule 67x43x17mm - about the size of a cigarette lighter.

This is all possible thanks to Samsung's latest 1.3in hard disk which is available in capacities ranging from 12GB up to 40GB but is the size of a Compact Flash II memory card.

There's a retractable USB cable so you don't need to worry about it getting lost and it will draw its power from the USB port so it doesn't require a separate adapter. It comes preloaded with Lacie's 1-Click Backup software and LacieSync utility which will keep copies of updated files, emails and personal settings synchronised between two PCs.

The Little Disk is available now for £99.90 from Lacie.

Apple Macbook Pro with Multi-Touch trackpad input

Apple has revamped its laptop line up and its new Macbook Pro now features the same Multi-Touch trackpad as seen on the Macbook Air. Unlike a normal trackpad, it supports gestures similar to those used on the iPhone, so you can zoom in on an image by pinching your fingers together, for example.

The entry level model comes with a 15in 1,440x900 LED-backlit display, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 2GB of RAM and a 200GB hard drive. If you fancy splashing out, however, you could opt for a 17in 1,920 x 1,200 display, 2.6GHz processor, 4GB of RAM and a 300GB hard drive.

You also get Nvidia's latest GeForce 8600M GT graphics chip so 3D performance won't be a problem and an illuminated keyboard which makes it easier to type in poorly lit locations.

The updated Macbook Pro is available now from £1,299 from Apple.

Sony Bravia DAV-DZ860W wireless surround sound system

Like the idea of surround sound, but less keen on having wires draping all over your lounge? With Sony's new Bravia DAV-DZ860W home theatre system you can have proper surround sound without having to string cables everywhere.

The setup uses Sony's S-AIR (Audio Interactive Radio frequency) system to wirelessly transmit audio to the rear speakers so you don't need to have audio cables running behind the sofa - you just need to locate them near a mains socket for power.

If you're worried about how to set it all up, the Digital Cinema Auto-Calibration function uses a microphone to adjust the sound output so it's optimised for your speaker layout and room size. There's also a Dialogue Enhancer Plus feature to make dialogue easier to make out without ruining the surround sound effect.

The DAV-DZ860W will be available in June, pricing has yet to be confirmed. For more information, see Sony.

Gigabyte GSmart t600 mobile phone with TV tuner

There are many manufacturers creating mobile phones that support the DVB-H mobile TV standard, but with no broadcasts available in the UK they're of little use over here.

Gigabyte's new GSmart t600 handset not only has support for DVB-H but also DVB-T too - the same system used by Freeview, which means you can watch regular digital TV broadcasts on its 2.6in screen. It also supports DAB radio broadcasts too, providing plenty of entertainment options.

It runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional, so it can double as a PDA and its 520MHz processor should provide plenty of power. If that's not enough, there's a 2.1 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 2.0 and a MicroSD slot for expansion. Talktime is rated at four hours, but you'll only get a couple of hours out of it if you're watching TV too.

The GSmart t600 will be available in March, price will depend on contract. For more information see Gigabyte.

Sony NWZ-A820 Bluetooth video MP3 player

If you're not a fan of wires, then take a look at Sony's new NWZ-A820 video MP3 player. With Bluetooth built in it can stream music wirelessly to the headphones, so you won't end up in a tangle.

Sony is even throwing a pair of wireless headphones, so you get everything you need in the box.

It has a 2.4in screen and is available in either 4GB or 8GB capacities, which is enough for over 30 hours of video or 1,850 songs on the larger model. In terms of battery life it'll last up to ten hours when playing video or 36 when just doing audio. Listening wirelessly will cut that down, though, and you'll only get seven hours of video or 15 hours of music when using Bluetooth.

The NWZ-A802 will be available in April, pricing has yet to be confirmed. See Sony for more information.

Orange HTC Shift 7in touch screen laptop/PDA

The new Shift from HTC can't decide whether it wants to be a PDA or a laptop, with the ability to run both Windows Mobile and Vista. The idea being that there's no point booting up Vista if you just want to check your email or calendar, but there will be times when you'll need more power than Windows Mobile can offer.

It has a 7in touch screen and a slide out keyboard, making input a doddle even if you're on the move. Inside there's a 30GB hard drive and it supports 3G/3G+ and Wi-Fi, with the ability to seamlessly switch between networks.

It comes pre-loaded with Microsoft Office, so you can use Word or Excel under Vista and it includes fingerprint security to stop people stealing your data if the device goes walkabout.

The HTC will be available from Orange at the end of the month for a rather hefty £999 with a data contract.
