Freecom MusicPal

The iPod may be pushing 160GB, but if you're a serious music fan then even that amount of space isn't sufficient to contain your entire music collection. A portable player may provide a good subsection to listen to while you're on the go, but when you're at home you want full access to the lot.

The Freecom MusicPal will allow you to untether your music collection from your PC and stream it wirelessly about your house. In addition, it can provide access to over 5,000 internet radio stations so you'll never be stuck for something to listen to.

It works with both PC and Mac and has built in 802.11g Wi-Fi and a wired ethernet port. It'll happily playback MP3 or WAV files, but if the majority of your music is in AAC or WMA format, you may need to look elsewhere.

The MusicPal is available now for £100, see Freecom for more information.

Saitek 3D 380

Getting big sound out of a small speaker system is no mean feat, however Saitek is hoping its 3D 380 will provide wide, wraparound audio with the need for bulky housings.

The setup features Saitek's Advanced Stereo Imaging System (ASIS) which promises pinpoint stereo accuracy, particularly important in PC gaming for an enhanced atmosphere and immersive experience. It also works when playing back music too, allowing you to hear different instruments more precisely in the stereo mix.

The speaker housing is designed to minimise distortion so it produces crisp, clean sound over a wide acoustic range. There's even an adjustable bass contour control which allows you to customise the system depending on the acoustics of your room. With a maximum output of 80W it shouldn't have a problem filling most studies or spare bedrooms with sound.

The 3D 380 is available now for £34.99, see Saitek for further details.

Philips SPD5130

With ever expanding hard disks in PCs and bulging photo, video and music collections, creating a complete backup of all your precious files can become a bit of a headache. Philips is poised to make the task simpler with its SPD5130 1TB drive - that's 1,000GB of storage space to play with, enough for one million photos, 250,000 songs or six weeks of uncompressed video.

It's equipped with an eSATA interface, which is six times faster than USB 2.0 - when you're shifting such large amounts of data around you'll appreciate the speed hike. It also comes with a standard USB 2.0 connection, so you can still use it on older PCs, albeit it at a much lower speed.

It features intelligent power management, so it will start up and shut down along with your PC and there's a one-click button for simple file backup.

The SPD5130 is available now for £299.99, see Philips for more information.

Shure Music Phone Adapter

If you're eagerly awaiting the arrival of the iPhone on 9 November (and happen to have pots of spare cash lying around to pay for it), but don't relish the idea of having to downgrade to the bundled white headphones to listen to your tracks, fear not for Shure has a solution.

The Music Phone Adapter will allow you to use your iPhone with Shure sound isolating earphones (and presumably those of other headphone manufacturers too) to listen to music and receive calls.

It features what Shure calls a low-profile VoicePort microphone which it claims is a professional grade microphone that will enhance speech regardless of background noise. There's also a control button so you can easily answer and end calls without having to get your phone out of your pocket.

The Music Phone Adapter will be available in November for £41, see Shure for further details nearer the time.

LG M228WD

If you quite like the idea of catching up on the goings on in Ramsey street during working hours, but don't want the boss to catch you watching Neighbours when you're meant to be knee deep in spreadsheets, LG might be able to help you out.

In addition to being a top of the range computer monitor, its new M228WD also comes with a built-in digital TV tuner so you can use it for both work and play.

The 22in display has a 1,680x1,050 native resolution, fast 5ms response time and wide 170 degree viewing angle. On the TV side of things, you'll find a DVB-T and PAL/SECAM tuner, suitable for both analogue and digital transmissions, plus an HDMI port for hooking up HD peripherals such as Blu-ray or HD DVD.

The M228WD will be available in November, pricing has yet to be decided. Keep an eye on LG's website for more information.

Sony Cyber-shot T2

Sony has put all other camera manufactures that bundle miniscule amounts of internal memory with their top end cameras to shame with the Cyber-shot T2. While some makers may think it's acceptable to send out a camera with only 20MB of internal memory, or none at all, Sony believes a bulky 4GB is much more healthy.

Even taking snaps at the full 8.1 megapixel resolution, you should have space for 1,250 images. Drop down to VGA size and you can shoot a whopping 40,000 before you need to think about downloading them.

The T2 features a 2.7in screen at the back for reviewing your shots and comes in a range of colours: black, blue, green, pink and white. Despite its small dimensions, Sony has managed to cram in a 3x optical zoom and it has a high ISO rating of 3,200.

The Cyber-shot T2 will be available in November, pricing has yet to be confirmed. Keep an eye on Sony's website for further details.

Motorola Moto U9

If you are put off from getting a clamshell phone because you have to flip it open before you can actually use it, then Motorola may be able to tempt you to switch with the Moto U9.

It features a touch sensitive external display, so you can easily interact with the phone while it is closed. Not only that, but it has good music credentials, promising easy transition from phone to music and back again, one touch access to your music library and the ability to pause tracks as a call comes through.

It comes with a MicroSD slot for easy expansion and promises stereo Bluetooth audio for music and clear speech thanks to Motorola's CrystalTalk technology, which reduces background noise.

The Moto U9 will be available later in the year, see Motorola for more information.

Samsung G800

Samsung is further blurring the lines between mobile phone and camera with the G800 - claimed to be the world's first five megapixel cameraphone with 3x optical zoom.

In addition to the massive pixel count you can zoom in on the action without losing quality - making it capable of rivaling some dedicated cameras. It even has features such as panorama shots, multi shots and macro shots that you'd expect to find on a standalone camera as well as a Xenon flash so you can make out details in dark surroundings.

As well as having top notch photographic features, it's not too shabby on the phone front either. It's HSDPA compatible, providing fast near-broadband speed downloads while you're on the go, and it has built in software to help you quickly share your snaps with the world.

The G800 will be available soon, price will depend upon contract. Keep an eye on Samsung Mobile's website for further details.

It comes with 4GB of memory for storing your tracks and has a 2.4in colour TFT screen. Choosing what to listen to or navigating the menu is a breeze thanks to iRiver's intuitive direct click control, which allows you to press the edges of the screen to move around.
